Gabriella Sibeko


 
 

Gabriella Sibeko (she/her) is an NYC-based freelance dancer and educator born and raised in Montreal, Canada, with roots in Durban and Cape Town, South Africa.

During her formative years of training, she studied classical ballet under the direction of Paula Urrutia, performing principal roles in La Bayadere, Paquita, and Don Quixote.

In 2013, she was granted a Scholarship to The Ailey School where she trained for the next three years, graduating from the Certificate Program in 2016. While there, she was cast to perform in some of Alvin Ailey’s most acclaimed works: Revelations, House of the Rising Sun, Escapades, and The Lark Ascending, and had the fortune of being mentored and directed by Frederick Moore, Sylvia Waters, and Mathew Rushing. She received additional training at the Dance Theater of Harlem and Complexions Contemporary Ballet, performing works by Dwight Rhoden.

In her professional career, she has combined her love for concert, commercial and theatrical work and has had the privilege of dancing for and touring with a wide range of dance companies including Hivewild, Bocatuya, Stewart/Owen Dance, MICHIYAYA, Abarukas, BARE Dance and TedTed Performance Group, and is represented by New York’s Clear Talent Agency. Her artistry has been shaped profoundly by the choreographers she’s worked with including Dolly Sfeir, Omar Román De Jesús, Al Blackstone, Avihai Haham, Katherine Maxwell, Ellenore Scott, Jakob Karr, and Jon Rua to name a few.

Gabriella can be credited in the Netflix’s Making Malinche documentary set in Ibiza, Spain. She can also be credited in Nowness Digital’s Top Picks for her work in Akira Uchida’s film, Still. She has danced for musical artists Phish, Alison Sudol, Sondre Lerche, and ELENI. She has performed in major venues like Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, The Joyce Theater, The Apollo Theater, and Los Angeles’ The Montàlban.

Gabriella teaches and sets choreographic work throughout the United States and Canada and is a faculty member of the Luminous Tour Dance Convention. She co-choreographed the international video campaign entitled ‘Freedom: International Day of the Girl’ produced by The Global Goals Campaign and Beyoncé Knowles, receiving wide international recognition. She has been an associate choreographer for Nathan Trice, Erica Sobol, and Emily Greenwell and was one of the lead dancers in the 2018 Capezio A.C.E. Award’s winning work entitled, Not For Picking choreographed by Mary Grace McNally.

Along with performing and educating, Gabriella is also pursuing a part-time degree in psychology and interdisciplinary studies. She is the co-hosted/co-founder of danceCONNECT: a series of stages and stories, an interview-style podcast that centers around the varying lives of dance artists.
